Christmas Eve

Each year we go to my sister in law's house for Christmas Eve. It's always filled with great food, super people, and good times.

Once we leave the festivities, we head to my dad's house to spend the night and prepare for Santa's arrival. Here are the girls putting out the reindeer food. Look at them in their shorts on Christmas Eve.

Christmas Day

My dad's tree looked so pretty on Christmas Eve. It was all ready with the packages and the lights shining brightly. Perfect.

The girls were ready for their stockings at 7:30 on Christmas morning.

Daisy came out to help. Oh, she got a little something from Santa in her stocking.

A little deodorant and Lily's favorite Werthers were in her stocking.

After stockings, it's on to the Santa gifts (3 for each girl--much like the 3 gifts the wise men brought to Baby Jesus) in the living room.

More gifts were opened at my dad's and then we were off to my sister's house for the afternoon get together.

Once we came back to our house, we were surprised to see that Santa left the girls gifts under our tree. They both received WRV (surf shop) shirts and penny skateboards. Santa must have thought they needed to be properly attired now that they are beach girls!

It was a terrific Christmas!

Our Tree

We finally made it out to find a tree once we arrived in Virginia on the 20th. There were only about ten trees left in the tree lot. So, we selected this special Christmas tree. She leaned a bit to one side, but John assured us it gave her character (that same character caused her to topple over when I was dedecorating the tree).

Decorating with so many ornaments filled with special memories.

The finishing touch is always the spider that my mother made for the tree. Look closely and you can see the little silver spider.

We had a nice evening of tree decorating. Even if it was a last minute tree purchase this year.

Home for the Holidays

We are all in Virginia Beach for the holiday break. That meant that we needed to buy a Christmas tree and decorate it. We searched for one and finally found a tree lot that had about ten trees left. We selected our tree and came home to decorate it. Our sweet tree is really making it feel like Christmas around here.

Teacher Gifts

One of my favorite things this time of year is putting together a fun little gift for the teachers. This year I found these great 2016 planners at Marshalls for $2.99. I put the planners together with a tasty little treat that I found at Target for $1.00. They are not only yummy but they are packaged in such a fun way. To complete the gifts, I added a Starbucks gift card. I also found these whimsical 12 days of Christmas gift bags at Marshalls.

We like to give gifts to many of the people at the schools, so I attempt to put together a fun but economical gift. This one was just $9.00 a person. And for the male teachers, we put together a holiday box of chocolates and a Starbucks gift card. Always a good time coming up with new and different teacher gift ideas.

House Selling/Buying Notebook

Back in August we found a house in Virginia Beach that we wanted to purchase. Then we began the process of selling our house in North Carolina. With both the house buying and selling happening simultaneously, I decided I needed two things: a notebook and a folder to keep me organized.

I used this handy notebook that was separated into two sections. I could document all things that applied to the VA house in one section and the items for the NC house in the other section. Conveniently, it came with a little pocket for each section. So any loose notes, business cards, and receipts could be placed in the pockets.

In the notebook, I jotted down information on home repairs, showing dates and times, moving costs, utility company phone numbers, and a variety of other important items that pertained to the buying and selling of the homes.

I also had a folder for the sale of the NC home. It was helpful for adding the larger documents that we needed to keep track of along the way.

In addition to the notebook and the folder, I also kept two folders in my email that were titled with the home addresses. When any, and all, emails came in I would save them under the correct house folder. This made it pretty easy to find important emails from realtors, home inspectors, painters, etc.

I think these forms of organization are what helped me to stay on track and not lose my mind (completely)! Hope these might help someone else out there who is looking to buy or sell a house (or to do both). Good luck.

Advent Calendar

Happy December 1st! We are starting off the month with our little handmade advent calendar. Our original one is boxed up in Virginia Beach. So, we are still bringing the fun in NC with the Elf and some special advent items each day.
