Cabin Fever & Stomach Flu = Art Therapy
Shelly caught a stomach bug on Wednesday night and it was holding on strong all day Thursday. She had a little water throughout the day and took several naps. This morning she woke up feeling a little better, but I could tell she still she wasn't 100%.
Oh, and once Shelly was feeling better from the flu the rest of got the stomach bug. I've spent the majority of the day deep cleaning the house and ridding ourselves of the germs!
Her sister headed out with friends to see a movie and Shelly and I stayed behind. With Shelly gaining a little more energy, we decided it was time to make some art. So, we looked in the craft cabinet and found a wooden frame, a wooden door hanger, and a small canvas. She got to work creating some art pieces and it passed the time while she worked on feeling better.
And after the crafts were completed it was time to bake a cake. We didn't have much of a plan so we decided on baking the cake in round pans. Once it was cooled we stuck it in the freezer for a few minutes.
Then it was time to assemble the cake into the shape of a cat. Shelly and I used our various resources in the house to decorate the cat cake. We were pretty pleased with the outcome.
This is what the cat spends most of her time doing at the back door:

Legacy
Recently a family friend passed away. He was diagnosed with cancer with a prognosis of six months to live. Three weeks later he passed away in his sleep. He was loved by many and John had a special connection to him. The sudden loss has been difficult on everyone.
Scotland Golf Trip 2008:
I helped our friend, his daughter-in-law, put together a video from his grandchildren and as we went through the photos I was struck by his constant smile. He always had a smile on his face and a happy and funny comment when you encountered him.
I learned three lessons from his death: smile and be happy, take lots of pictures and include yourself in them, and make sure to let people know how you feel about them. His legacy will live on long after all of us are gone.

Marcel
Have you seen the Marcel, the Shell videos? No, well check them out below. So cute and funny! Thanks Lin and Krissy for showing us the videos on our girls weekend!
After watching the videos several times, it inspired Shelly and I to make our own little Marcels. We improvised and used what we had around the house...shells, googly eyes, pipe cleaners for shoes, and a marker for a mouth. Fun!

Haphazard Thoughts
More of my disjointed thoughts for the day. Chose not to use the word random in the title...that seemed boring and repetitive.
Our Summer to do list came down and this is what it looked like before it was removed. We had plenty left on the list to do, but with our shorter summer, I felt fine with what we completed.

I was at TJ Maxx and I found this cute set of cards by this terrific artist. I think I'll use a few of them to frame and add to our art galleries throughout the house.

Shelly sure loves to hold Daisy! They have a good time together.

Tuesdays! What is the deal with Tuesday??? My sister and I decided it was one of our least favorite days of the week. Every other day seemed to have a purpose. Tuesday...not so much.
Glad that the new tv shows will return soon.
It's quiet in my home these days with those girls at school. (Boo hoo)
Shelly left me this note the other day and I like it.

Wishing my mom was here. I miss her so much and would love to chat with her about the girls' new adventures at school. I would listen to her advice and ask her questions about my own youth and her mothering skills when I was in junior high. Every day I find something different to miss about her. Every day.
Here's a little video of Lily and Daisy. Daisy loves to suck on the girls' fingers and here she is doing just that (and that is the cat making those little sucking sounds):

This!
John and I were talking the other day about how many little things have occured in our lives to get us to this point. And, how if some of those things hadn't happen how it would have changed our lives. We had this conversation on Friday afternoon and on Saturday morning I heard this song. Another one of those little perfect coincidences. And I especially like the following line from his song:
How I cried when my mama passed away
But now I've got an angel looking out for me today
So nothing's a mistake
How I cried when my mama passed away
But now I've got an angel looking out for me today
So nothing's a mistake

Room CHANGE
I'm using my new word to make some changes in the house. We have lived with our furniture configuration the same way since we moved into the house in 2002. So, John suggested we move the furniture around on New Year's Day. And, I am really enjoying the new look. Here are a couple (very dark) videos to share with you:

Because I Knew You
Heard this song for the first time today and it reminded me of my mom. Thought I'd share it:
