October 2018

We kicked off October with Shelly attending the big homecoming game and the homecoming dance. And, she spent time helping to decorate the freshmen hall for homecoming.

Shelly, Fynley and I were at home for a pretty serious and scary storm. We were all up at 1:00 a.m. and slept together downstairs. We are surrounded by so many trees and the wind was very intense. The next morning, the yard was covered in leaves and some major limbs.

I chalked painted the large desk we are using in the dining room as a buffet. I was happy with the outcome.

Shelly and I went to visit Lily at Tech during her fall break. The campus was quiet but we had a great time with Lily. We all loved our quick trip to Roanoke to shop and explore.

Over FaceTime, we included Lily in our birthday celebration for John. Technology is an amazing thing.

On Halloween night, Shelly was a ladybug and I was a bee. We handed out candy at the end of the driveway. John set up our fire pit and put on his creepy old man mask. Fynley wore her rufferee costume once again.

Halloween 2017

So, this year marked our first Halloween with no children trick or treating. But, happily, the girls dressed up for handing out candy.

Krissy came over to help pass out candy and she and Lily dressed up as the Stark sisters from Game of Thrones.

Shelly DIYed her own costume and dressed as a cactus! And, Fynley joined in the fun, too. She wore a Rufferee outfit.

I must admit, I enjoyed sitting in the driveway passing out candy while checking out all of the cute costumes the little kids were wearing. We had a great time and it was fun to see the girls still embracing the chance to dress up.

Halloween Fun

Shelly decided she wanted to be an ice cream cone for Halloween. So, I got to work putting together a costume for her.

It included a tan skirt from Forever 21, a white t-shirt cut to represent dripping ice cream with felt sprinkles added, and a headband with a red styrofoam ball and a red pipe cleaner for the cherry on top. It was an easy and cute costume for a middle schooler.

Lily's face = she should have dressed up as a character from Hamilton!

She had fun trick or treating in a new neighborhood with new friends. Lily went with us while John stayed home and gave out candy.

We also dressed Fynley in a fun set of black wings. Her coloring made her the perfect little bat.

It was a successful Halloween.

Halloween

I've been decorating around the house for Halloween with touches of fall, as well.

When we moved last year, I purged quite a bit of my things. So, I found a few things to add to the decor, but I've been trying to keep it simple.

Halloween 2015

Our annual Halloween tradition includes meeting up with the neighborhood friends for a bite to eat before we go trick or treating. It was a fun night, as always!

BOO!!!

The Lion and Elsa

Halloween on a Friday night means more fun and less stress about rushing home and getting to bed.

So, we organized the annual Halloween get together before trick or treating. Everyone brings an easy to share appetizer and the kids get a chance to show off their costume to one another. It really is the highlight of Halloween for me. I love to see them all together in their costumes laughing and having fun.

This year was one of our favorite Halloweens.

Shelly was Elsa from Frozen and Lily was a lion. They both used their hair to their advantage for their choice of costume.
