Her First Day

Shelly went off to school this morning for her first day of preschool. She has done nothing but talk about school for the last week. So when we ended up in the classroom this morning I was so shocked that she was crying and almost screaming as I got ready to go. Some of the other moms were looking at me with a bit of distaste. I knew they were nervous that their child might begin crying, as well. I completely understood that, but my gut reaction was to kick them in the knees! Did they really think either one of us was happy about the fact that my 4 year-old was upset??? Seriously! Anyway, I finally left her with one of the teachers and headed out the door. I stood in the hallway for a moment and realized that the crying was ending and she was going to be fine. If nothing else, the girl looked stylish for her first day. Oh, and when I returned to pick her up the teacher assured me she did great the remainder of her stay. And, she happily chatted about all of her adventures on the drive home. Success with a bit of a rocky start.
