Making Goals

I've decided to do a little something different for my new year plan. In the past, I would select one word that would help guide me through the year. This year I made up a short list of goals. These are things that I need to pay more attention to and I'm hopeful that they are all realistic goals for my life.

One Word

As I was coming up with my one little word for this year, I started by choosing the word LIVE! As in LIVE your life to the fullest, LIVE in the present, etc. But, in all honesty that word really didn't cut it.

And then while reading another blog, I was struck by a post that a blogger wrote about HOPE. And, that was the word that hit home. It just felt right. So, this year's word is HOPE

  • HOPE for the future
  • HOPE for my children
  • Being HOPEFUL for positive changes

Some of my past "words" of the year have been KIND, CREATE, SIMPLIFY, HAPPY, and CHANGE.

2 0 1 3 Word

Each year I like to pick a word that will help guide my year. Last year I chose HAPPY and it felt good to try to work harder at being happy. Seems like a simple concept, but it isn't always easy to be happy. But, overall I felt successful with my attempts.

This year I want to concentrate on being KINDER. So my word for the year is KIND. I want to look for people and areas in my life where I need to be better at being kind.

I think that sometimes I am so concerned with everything being "just so" that I forget to be nice to the people around me. I'm not particularly proud of that, but it feels good to be honest. And, I really am looking forward to being better to the people around me. I'm pretty excited about it and hope to report back about my progress.

In the past few years my words have been SimplifyChangeCreate, and Happiness

Along with my one word of the year, the family filled out sheets for 2012 and 2013. On New Year's Eve, we all reflected on the past year and thought about the year ahead. It was interesting to know what was important to each of us from 2012 and what we were hoping for in the year ahead.

One Word for 2012

My One Word for 2012 was HAPPY. I think I knocked that one out nicely. It was a very happy year with lots of fun activities and tons of laughs. Here are a few of the things that made me happy this year. I'm excited to think of my word for 2013. I have a few in mind to kick off the year.

This event involving daisy started our year off with lots of fun and happiness.
Unexpected happiness at the circus
The start of summer always makes us happy.
Taking trips to my hometown is always fun and we had a blast at Busch gardens.

Happy time spent with John in Nola

Watching Shelly cheer always makes me happy.

Watching Lily develop new passions (food and sports) makes me happy.

One Word

Several years ago I participated in the idea of creating one word that would guide me through the year (an alternative to the typical new year's resolution). That year my word was simplify. I loved the word and it really helped me stay focused. I loved the word so much that I hung on to it for a few years.

In 2009, I picked create and after my mother's death that word seemed to fall to the wayside and a new word took its place---grief.

Last year I tried to come up with a word, but it just didn't happen.

So, I deliberated for some time on what the word might be for 2011. And over and over again the same word kept popping in my head. Each week, I am hoping to report on how I am using the new word. Here's to a new year and a new word:
