Shelly and I decided to do a little after school crafting the other day (Lily was at school taking Drivers Ed).
Our first craft was "bunnies with a cute bum". I found the craft idea here and used her template to create the bunnies. Then we made the little pom poms and hot glued them to the bunnies. We put our bunnies on to a piece of yarn to create a garland. I hot glued mine and Shelly chose to hole punch hers and lace the yarn through the bunnies' ears.
I put mine up on the mantel and Shelly displayed hers on her window.
Our next spring activity was creating butterflies. I found this idea here. I made the square/circle template and traced it on to some of my scrapbook paper (good use for that seldom used paper). Then we cut out our patterns and got to work folding. Once the folding was done, we tied the middle of the butterfly with bakers twine and pipe cleaners. We fluffed out the wings and they were ready to be placed with the bunnies on the mantel.
Shelly caught a stomach bug on Wednesday night and it was holding on strong all day Thursday. She had a little water throughout the day and took several naps. This morning she woke up feeling a little better, but I could tell she still she wasn't 100%.
Her sister headed out with friends to see a movie and Shelly and I stayed behind. With Shelly gaining a little more energy, we decided it was time to make some art. So, we looked in the craft cabinet and found a wooden frame, a wooden door hanger, and a small canvas. She got to work creating some art pieces and it passed the time while she worked on feeling better.
And after the crafts were completed it was time to bake a cake. We didn't have much of a plan so we decided on baking the cake in round pans. Once it was cooled we stuck it in the freezer for a few minutes.
Then it was time to assemble the cake into the shape of a cat. Shelly and I used our various resources in the house to decorate the cat cake. We were pretty pleased with the outcome.
This is what the cat spends most of her time doing at the back door:
Oh, and once Shelly was feeling better from the flu the rest of got the stomach bug. I've spent the majority of the day deep cleaning the house and ridding ourselves of the germs!
We are trying to squeeze the fun out of our last week of summer vacation. (Boo!)
So, we headed to the pottery painting place and spent an hour creating. It was a rainy day and it felt good to relax and just paint.
Then we purchased the supplies to create sand terrariums. They were pretty fun to make and they turned out nicely. We followed a tutorial from this site and I'm not 100% sure they're going to thrive, but we are excited to watch them attempt to live.
With just six days until school begins we are hoping to continue to create more fun memories from the summer of 2013.
Shelly was dying to do a little craft. So, after seeing this video, she decided we needed to make these. Well, we did. It took her mother awhile to figure out exactly how to sew the snaps on, but after about 3 tries, I was successful.
The girls bought some decorative duct tape at Target the other day and all sorts of crafts have been happening ever since. Duct tape extravaganza 2011:
For years I have stored my collection of ribbons in glass jars. These jars were not the most effective way to keep the ribbons looking good. So, after seeing this super smart idea, I went to work creating my own ribbon storage plan. I just used some cardboard found in a box that we got in the mail, as well as, some corrugated (the official name of this cardboard)from a few extra boxes that my husband sells (he's a box guy). I didn't take too much time making sure the pieces were all the same size. I prepared the ribbons and tried to arrange them by color (for the most part).
Then they went into this cute little Ikea tin.
I kept one of the jars in the tin and it holds some new ribbons and my collection of twine.
The tin slides right into my craft storage cabinet and holds all of the ribbons in its neat little box. Easy and organized!!!
