In 2002, I created a simple and easy gift for my parents and mother-in-law. It was a jar, a journal, and writing prompts about their life.
My mother diligently wrote her answers in the basic spiral ring notebook I gave her. And, in 2009, at my mother's funeral, I read from this simple little notebook. I quoted from this notebook in her very own words and told the congregation about my mother's "secrets of life".
Her simple little notebook that journaled the important and the every day moments of her life was a gift that will continue to inspire me. The messages within this journal will live on with my daughters, my nieces, my nephews and their children. A priceless gift.
So, if you're looking for a special gift for your parents/grandparents, find a pretty journal, the perfect jar, and include questions for them to answer. You'll be happy you did.
How very special that you have those memories from your mom. It's such a great idea. I wonder if my grandma would do this. I would love to have something like this from her.
